Welcome to the Halifax Victoria General Hospital School of Nursing Alumni

The VGH School of Nursing Alumni officially has functioned continuously since 1920.  One could say that the alumni is 124 years old, as the first class graduated in 1892... a remarkable feat, and accomplished through the efforts of dedicated volunteers.  [more about the Alumni]

First Class 1890     First Nurses Residence 1890

The VG Hospital School for Nursing was established in 1891 by Dr. C. Jacques, a member of the Executive Council of Nova Scotia, and approved by the Lt. Governor.  Six members were in the first nursing class and lectures were held by doctors, once a week.  The graduates were referred to as "Senior Nurses".  [more about the School of Nursing]
