The VGH School of Nursing Alumni officially has functioned continuously since 1920. One could say that the alumni is 124 years old, as the first class graduated in 1892... a remarkable feat, and accomplished through the efforts of dedicated volunteers. [

The VG Hospital School for Nursing was established in 1891 by Dr. C. Jacques, a member of the Executive Council of Nova Scotia, and approved by the Lt. Governor. Six members were in the first nursing class and lectures were held by doctors, once a week. The graduates were referred to as "Senior Nurses". [
